- 1584  (1877)  In which mappe, in the chapiter of Newfoundelande, there in Latyn is put down, besides the yere of our Lorde, even the very day, which was the day of St. John Baptiste; and the firste lande which they saw they called Prima Visa or Prima Vista.
- 1752  John and Sebastian Cabot sailed from Bristol, and discovered Newfoundland, or Prima Vista, in 1494.
- 1873  The navigator above mentioned called the Island of Newfoundland "Prima Vista" as being the first land seen by him.
